Petroleum Training and Qualifying Institute

The Training and Developing Centre was opened in 1987. It is a very successful centre with a good reputation all our country. With an in-depth awareness of the need to develop the competence of employees working in the Oil Sector, the Training and Development Centre, PTQI was established to facilitate continuous improvement of performance through designing and running various courses. While courses at this centre are tailored to meet the very specific needs of candidates, the centre provides generic courses which include:

  • English for Specific Purpose (ESP).
  • Training courses in different technical fields .
  • Theoretical and practical training.
  • Drilling Department

  • The Drilling Department aims at improving the quality of both the scientific and practical aspects of its curricula which include drilling technology equipment.
  • Training at this department includes assembling, disassembling, maintenance, work preparations, and testing.
  • The drilling fluid laboratory at this department is fully equipped with modern machinery and equipment.
  • The department includes a full drilling Device (IDECO H 35) and is currently working on introducing off-shore drilling operations within its curriculum. This department also includes a complete drilling simulator (DS- 5000).

  • Production Department
The curriculum at the Production Department provides theoretical studies as well as practical training that would enable participants to be qualified to work in the following fields:

  • Surface equipment for Production Operations.
  • Well Testing (sub-surface pressure and temperature).
  • Water injection equipment.
  • Artificial Lift equipment (Submersible Pumps and Gas Lift).

  • Processing Department

  • This department is responsible for the training of personal to become operators for the oil & gas industry.
  • The three year study program is divided into three areas: general studies, oil& gas processing equipment operation, oil and gas processes.
  • The department has many training facilities which include :Operator training simulators,a workshop,a quality control lab.,and spacious class rooms.
  • The DCS Simulator:A fully dynamic oil & gas operator training DCS .
  • simulator which consist of :

  • Eight DCS operator stations.
  • Two instructor stations.
  • Three PLC panels.
  • Two large screens.
  • The simulator is capable of being expanded, modefied or upgraded to meet the industries needs.

    Electricity Department
1-The training programmes at this department would enable participants to be fully qualified to carry out different electrical maintenance works and to lay out networks in the various oilfields and petrochemical complexes.
2-There are four workshops in this department :
  • Electrical Networks
  • Training Simulators
  • AC/DC Machines
  • Power and Control
  • Mechanics Department
  • This Department is subdivided into two main sections: Maintenance and Machines. Each section includes various workshops well equipped for the purpose of practical training. Also, classrooms are available in each section for theoretical classes and lectures.
  • The training programmes at this department provide sound background and competence in the fields of Inspection and maintenance Operations; Assembling and Disassembling; Preventive Maintenance of pumps, compressors and valves in addition to practical and theoretical training in the field of Gasoline and Diesel Engines.
  • The department also provides practical and theoretical training in the field of Metals and Instruments of high precision.

  • Instrumentation Department
  • The department provides courses in which participants have intensive practice through conducting experiments related to the principles of Electrical and Electronic Engineering as well as the principles of Digital Circuits, Measurement and Control Instruments (both electronic and pneumatic) and Integrated Circuits of measurement and control in all fields.
  • The department also provides theoretical and practical training in which various workshops and simulators are used.
  • Welding Department
  • Training at this department includes gas welding and electric arc welding operations. The workshops are designed especially for practical training purposes and are provided with classrooms for theoretical classes.

  • Industrial Safety Department
  • Participants embarking on courses at this department are given theoretical classes as well as practical training in the field of Industrial Safety Engineering, Industrial Hazards, Fire Technology, Fire Prevention, Fire Science, Occupational Health and Environment Protection, Rescue and Disaster Management and First Aid.
  • The practical training also includes Fire Fighting, First Aid as well as site visits.
  • Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Department
  • This department provides courses which include different theoretical and practical classes such as the study of gases, pressure-temperature relationships, theory of refrigeration and heating (various applications).
  • The courses also provide practical training in the field of Maintenance Operations, Silver Welding, Charging Instruments, Leakage Detection, Circuit Control Instruments and Gas Charging.

    English Language

    English for Specific Purpose (ESP).

English is taught to adult students from beginners' level. Since 1993, students have had the opportunity to take PET and FCE Cambridge examinations.

The centre holds morning and evening classes with a very manageable 17 students per class.

Students come from a variety of backgrounds and professions.

Most of the students study under the sponsorship of their company. The companies who send students to study English here are varied, oil companies, medical, finance and so on . There are also Independent students. Excellent facilities are provided. There is a new, pleasant and spacious building which incorporates its own café and garden area for students. Barge, bright, Clean classrooms facilitate a comfortable atmosphere for the students. There are modern computer laboratories and TV and video rooms.

Students set a mid-term and final exam during their 12 week course which incorporates four hours teaching over a five day per week period. Students also receive reports following each exam, which shows assessment for all the skills they are taught, Speaking ,Listening ,Reading and writing . they are also assessed on their participation, interest and attendance .

The teaching is skill-based and it is provided by teachers specialized in those particular teaching skills. Many of the teachers have studied ,worked or traveled abroad. Many have gained or are encouraged to gain postgraduate qualifications, especially from abroad, particularly the U.K . It is a highly valued centre which provides excellent English language courses. Students are continually very eager and grateful to study here.
